Benson Polytechnic High School, PPS

Originally established in 1908, Benson Polytechnic High School is a historic public trade school in Portland’s Public School District. Benson’s career-focused curriculum provides students with a variety of technical education pathways that enable them to continue to trade school or enter directly into the workforce upon graduation. With majors ranging from arts and communications, to engineering and manufacturing, to construction and architecture, to medical professions, Benson’s 9-acre campus is home to a variety of specialized, hands-on learning environments.

Reyes Engineering is providing electrical engineering, security, fire alarm, and telecommunications design services for Benson’s modernization, renovation, and addition, which will occur in three project phases and target a LEED Gold certification. To help meet the project’s sustainability goals, Reyes’ designs will include a photovoltaic renewable energy system and plug load management strategies.

Construction is slated to take place from 2021-2024, with the school maintaining operations throughout. When complete, the renovated school will serve as a national example for STEAM and Career Technical Education and be eligible for landmark status.
